Oak 363

Simple moves made a big impact at Oak 363. A formal entrance was added, creating a connection between two existing cottages and a suitably grand entry to the remodelled four bedroom home. A number of internal walls were removed, creating sight lines to the landscape beyond. The resulting plan is symmetrical and organised around two axes.

The furnishings were led by the architecture. A monochromatic colourway with metallic highlights was chosen for the sandstone rooms. The white or newly renovated rooms allowed more opportunity for colour. The entry is signalled by a customised rug and a recycled timber log that acts as a display shelf.

Quietly luxurious materials like limestone, corian and brass were chosen internally to offset the detailed nature of the locally sourced sandstone that unites old and new. Spaces were divided by floating white boxes rather than full height walls in order to leave the impressive gabled ceilings uninterrupted.

Landscaping was integral to the transformation. The black mosaic lined pool was relocated to create a better connection to the lily pad filled pond. A combination of Miesian blade walls and bands of trees draw the eye past the manicured immediate surrounds through the gently sloping 2.23 hectare property.
