Nautilus
Nautilus has been granted planning approval. It will be the premium residential development within Shell Cove, the new beach side community by Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property on the South Coast of New South Wales. Located on a promontory, its prime location within the purpose built precinct offers views out to the headlands and the marina. 116 apartments are split between two buildings, one at six storeys and the other at four, designed to maximise light and outlook.
The architecture of the building is informed by the waterfront location with the curved form and nautical detailing taking its cue from the graceful shapes and details found in shipbuilding or the wings of a gull. A sense of grandeur characterises the building, its distinctive architecture and striking form combining to imbue a sense of identity and a commanding presence akin to Georgian apartments. Much like the residential buildings of that period, the façade draws on the idea of repetition and regular rhythm to create order, with the concrete blades conceived as a modern take on classical column structure.
Materials are selected for their longevity in a coastal setting, with a structure of white concrete articulated by horizontal ladders that create privacy for bedrooms. Outdoor space is just as important as the interiors. Situated around an elevated common courtyard garden, residents enjoy excellent amenity with a rich garden of Australian native plants surrounding an outdoor pool. A roof top garden, gym and yoga pavilion provide a space to exercising and unwind.
