Jury citation:
A dilapidated terrace house has been totally reimagined through a remarkable overlay of geometric mastery. All elements at the front of the historic building have been meticulously reinstated, and a new rear extension added, where the insertion of four siloes in a quatrefoil arrangement has created a totally new spatial geometry internally, including a dramatic double height space at the two lower levels.
The rigorous repetition and application of this idea has allowed complexity to evolve into opportunity, creating layers of spatial richness and moments of delight. The concept is immaculately applied throughout the house and studio – evident in every detail, every carefully carved opening, every moment of filtered light and meticulously resolved junction.
Incredible levels of skill are evident in the shaping and sculpting of the plan and volumes, in the allowance for openings to capture and disperse natural light, and in the finely and beautifully crafted construction.
