The large mixed-use site of 55-89 Chandos Street sits within the evolving town centre of St Leonards and is a wonderful opportunity to create a distinctive and appealing architectural and urban response. Surrounded by greenery, the combined site will be framed by the proposed tree-lined Oxley Street linear public park and the new through-site-link which connects Chandos Street to the transport hubs of St Leonards.
Expand ContentIn a family of tonal shades that reflect the colours and materials of the surroundings, the buildings are envisioned as a series of interlocking forms united by the repetition and regular rhythm of the façade. This rhythm creates a sense of order and reflects a modern take on classical column structures. The massing also serves to separate the building into distinct portions, articulating the façade and creating a human scale at street level.
The two 12 and 11 storey buildings accommodate retail and hospitality tenancies at ground level, which activate both the street frontages and the through-site-link, creating a lively and engaging public domain. A mix of commercial office space and 137 residences are housed above, with residents benefiting from communal, open and indoor spaces.
