This project merged two waterfront apartments into a spacious apartment with two bedrooms and a study. Located within a modernist 1950s building in Elizabeth Bay, the reimagined residence has breathtaking views and great orientation. The design was informed by the style of the building, the original architecture becoming a significant component of the design language and inspiring the custom furniture and fixture.
Expand ContentThe strongest element of this modernist expression is the circular Halo light. One metre in diameter, this bespoke element is fully recessed into the 100mm deep ceiling. It is more decorative than functional, relying on the supplementary light provided by the recessed down lights.
The planning of the unit is simple, strong and clear. The core of the building, which includes the new kitchen, cellar, laundry and powder room is expressed with a completely charcoal aesthetic including the floor, walls and bench tops.
Much of the furniture and furnishings, including rugs, sofas, tables and beds were custom made exclusively for this project. They aim to reinforce the aesthetic of the 1950s features in a contemporary manner.
This project represents the fusion of architecture, interiors and product design. The outcome is a sublime interior that feels both simple, sophisticated and holistic.
