Optique in Double Bay is a much-loved, long-standing community optometrist, however there was opportunity to improve the design of the store. SDS sought to present the luxury brands more effectively, as well as provide a more practical store layout. It was, moreover, important not to alienate the family-based clientele who rely on the quality service. Rather than present a few select frames which has become de rigueur for upmarket optical stores, 800 frames were put on display. This has given the customer great choice, while the structure of the store, organised into a series of bays, provides opportunities for creative merchandising.
Expand ContentIlluminating the product as well as making the purchaser look good is critical within an optical store. To achieve this, we used a selection of different light sources that create sharp shadows when the product is displayed and a soft, more complimentary light on someone’s face.
The light boxes face New South Head Road, taking advantage of the passing traffic. They are suspended within the shop front to allow window shoppers to see into the store and peruse the stock available. New special frames are showcased in the acrylic display boxes in the window and at reception.
The design of the store, as well as the materials employed, were derived from the personal style of the owners as their corporate identity. The look is classic and comfortable, yet simple and strong.
